I enjoyed that. Made me smile. It was pretty adorable, from the beer cans to the tired face of Grunge Guy. Good art, good music, good gameplay. The only suggestion I would have would be to somehow find a way to fix smiley faces being stuck on top of beer cans, causing the beer can to be unreachable.

Excellent work! Very enjoyable.

A decent, simple game. The art style is pretty nice, and this would lend itself quite well to a mobile game. Only problem is that starting it up it gives me multiple errors about loading audio .m4a files. I'm running Linux, so this might be platform specific, but even so I'd recommend looking into it.

Excellent job!

This game is incredibly well polished and has a specific gameplay style which is executed absolutely brilliantly. Each attack feels meaningful and damaging but not to the point of feeling clunky. The art style is apt for the mood and the difficulty is fair but difficult.

I have very few criticisms of this game except for perhaps that it could be fleshed out some more, perhaps with an upgrade system, if you want to go the route of a Learn to Fly meets Canabalt meets Dark Souls.

This game is a pleasure to play, excellent job!

Thanks for the review! The game is exactly the size it is due to limitations of the medium - it was made for PICO-8, a fantasy console that only allows a very limited amount of code of your game.

I'm not saying no to making a bigger version at some point in the future, but believe me - this is as much as I could stuff into the game given the limitations :).

This is a good proof of concept, but apart from a unique art style it doesn't bring much new to the table. I recommend deciding on a "thing" for your game - either a nice gameplay quirk or really make your style beautiful. Also, the sound just needs to be quieter, honestly. It's better to err on the side of caution with volume.

tristababy responds:

Thank you for your kindly observation and encouragement!

I like the concept! It delivers a clear goal, enemy and reward incredibly succinctly. With some development and perhaps being careful about interpolation for sprite rendering(currently creates a blur effect on certain sprites which doesn't look that nice), this concept could become something pretty good.

Koobazaur responds:

Thanks, yea I am very happy with how it turned out. Definitely a good "baseline" for a much bigger game if I ever wanted to, with a lot of room for growth and variation that could be added in :)

Very good as a mobile game. For PC, perhaps adding functionality to use the left and right arrow keys to shoot either side? I feel that this would help a lot.

I like it!

I like the concept a lot! Very unique and open to a lot of potential. I would, however, recommend moderating it somewhat, as this can get very clogged very fast. Perhaps also adding some sort of objective, perhaps in the style of an incremental game, would be a good idea.

Very good concept! Excellent!

Fotoshop responds:

Thanks! Yeah, I was considering moderating this game, but the system's supposed to be designed so that the userbase can sort of self-moderate. It takes many votes over a spread out period of time for an equation to become official, making it hard for a single person to get an element they want. Furthermore, other users can find equations getting close with the "Up and Coming" button and dislike stupid suggestions, hopefully ending them. However, despite all these steps, I'm still getting a lot of dumb elements, so maybe I'll try having a second server with stricter rules.

As for an objective, right now it's really more of a sandbox than an adventure game, and I don't have much time to fully flesh it out. I'd love to do that more in the future though!

As far as incremental games go, this one has a pretty nice feel! I like the visual feedback to clicking the button in the game, but I feel like its somewhat underwhelming.

I like the bar on the side of each upgrade, I haven't seen this system before in an incremental game.

Overall, this is better than most incremental games, but could use some slight polishing. Nicely done!

AxenLader responds:

Thank you very much :) I'll polish it more

It's a decent start. I honestly recommend giving some sort of indication of the controls, if there are any beyond arrow keys to move. Apart from that, be mindful of visual clarity in the game. You don't want to make your background bright and jump out at the player if you're using the exact same style for the enemies, the player and the objects in the game world.

I assume that the art is all made by you, which is great, but my honest opinion would be to practice some smaller artistic projects before selling your game on graphics or style which is unfortunately what you appear to be doing with a fairly same-y platformer style.

I hope to see you improve, this is but a stepping stone on your path to becoming a great developer!

sadsorcer responds:

Thanks a lot for your review, graphics are made by me, as was "THE MUSIC". I try my best to make it more professional looking, and adding some story & instructions.
P.S. The controls are - only LEFT, RIGHT KEY and UP ARROW for jumping.

I like the art style a lot. This game has a lot of potential for something good. It could use some polishing, but just minor things such as some feedback on the initial screen that doesn't require the user to read the game description to see what to do. Also, after you die, the "......" text box appears to be permanent, which obscures a quarter of the game screen.

Overall, excellent game, but could use some finishing touches, mostly in the form of teaching the user the controls.

Raeldor responds:

Thanks!, It's weird because for me the message goes away normally when I press space and resume the level. I tested in other browsers and without loggin in.

Can you tell me where and how it happens exactly?
